Carol L. Cheney, President, Creative Director
Carol Cheney established Cheney & Company in 1983 to work with
schools, colleges, health care organizations and other not-for-profit
institutions on their publications and public relations initiatives.
This followed four years as director of publications and public
relations at Choate Rosemary Hall (CT), one of the nation's leading
independent schools.
Carol has extensive experience in the areas of annual, capital
and planned giving programs, student recruitment and membership
programs, services and capabilities, constituency relations, branding
and marketing in the nonprofit and public sector environments.
Carol is a frequent speaker for national
and regional educational and fund-raising associations, including
CASE, NAIS, AFP and CAIS. In 1985 Carol won CASE's crystal apple
teaching award and has served on CASE publications juries and
the faculty of several CASE Summer Institutes. She has contributed
to the canon through her involvement in the production
of three editions of The Marketing Handbook for Independent
Schools
published by NAIS and A Development Handbook: Promoting Philanthropy
at Independent Schools published by CASE. She is serving on
the CASE Industry Advisory Council.
Carol has completed two terms as president of the Alumnae/i
Association of Sarah Lawrence College, where she served as a trustee
from 1995-2007. Carol was a member
of the trusteeship and development committees and the
marketing task force. She is a permanent member of the Advancement
Commission of the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools.
Carol is on the executive committee of the board of directors of
the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and has served on the
board of the Connecticut Chapter of AFP and several local organizations.
Carol is compiling a catalog raisonné of her great uncle
Russell Cheney (1881–1945), a painter, working with Richard
Candee, professor emeritus, Boston University.
