King's Block StoresThe following is a list of stores and people housed in the King's Block building. It is extensive but by no means complete. Most of the information from 1871 on comes from New Haven City Directories (Benham's or Price & Lee). An < and > indicates that the years prior or after were not examined. Dates without < or > indicate that the year before or after was checked and the business did not exist at that location. It does not necessarily indicate that the business did not move. Stores located in numbers higher than 20 after around 1890 may not be located in the King's Block. This would depend on when the building's wings were destroyed. Changes in address are noted but do not necessarily denote a change in location. The numbering system appears to have changed several times. Grand Street from Mill River to Quinnipiac River became E. Grand after Fair Haven was incorporated into New Haven (1871?) until East Haven was incorporated. It became Grand Ave. in 1886.
