The many flavors of LOVE

Before you send these love notes, take a minute to open them and
fan them out. Here for your enjoyment is a suite of patterns, textures, colors and type styles—all important elements of graphic design.

The combinations are not random or accidental, but rather, creative choices intended to prompt a feeling. Maybe one of the cards matches your mood today. There’s one you like best. Another suits your friend to a tee. That’s the way it is with graphic design—visceral, evocative.

This set of cards was created by Cheney & Company’s art director,
BJ Lambert. BJ majored in mathematics as an undergraduate and later went on to study graphic design at Yale University with the groundbreaking Alvin Eisenman. She topped off her graduate work in Basel, Switzerland.

BJ told me that the concept for this series started with her love of
type—specifically, typefaces—their variety and personality. She also
was influenced by the resurgence of interest in pattern as we see it
in fashion, interior design and home furnishings. And color! The
global marketplace has exposed us all to color and combinations
like never before.

So have fun with these Flavors of Love and remember that good
graphic design helps tell your story—creating that first important impression of your company or institution.
